| Set within one of the East End’s oldest markets on Columbia Road, Treacle is a nostalgic temptation that is impossible to resist. Treacle describes itself as an unashamed celebration of basic British baking and the menu is a no-nonsense selection of cupcakes and comfort food. The interior is basic, reflecting Treacle’s homage to a simpler bygone era and its best sellers are the large cupcakes in lemon, vanilla and chocolate flavours. Cakes are beautifully iced in pink, cream, baby blue or mint green and topped with sprinkles. A limited selection of beverages is also available - tea is a year-round staple, while homemade lemonade and organic elderflower cordial are available during summer. Displays of wonderful vintage and contemporary design knick-knacks top off the retro experience. |
